This project developed a plan for the rehabilitation and revitalization of the City of Bryan Downtown area. The plan presents
an overall streetscape plan with the addition of both hardscape and softscape elements to the area, a transportation plan with
recommendations for street cross sections and on-street parking, overall utility layouts and photometrics design, land use and
business strategies for the area as well as facade renovation recommendations. This project received the 2002 American Planning
Association (APA) - Texas Chapter Project Planning Award.
The project team for the Downtown Master Plan was headed by Looney, Ricks & Kiss Architects. Mitchell & Morgan, LLP contributed to the lighting evaluation and utilities planning portion of this overall Master Plan. In particular, Mitchell & Morgan, LLP presented options for relocating the electrical, telephone and cable from overhead locations to underground locations in an effort to improve the site aesthetics of Downtown. Coordination occurred with several City boards and committees as well as with the downtown merchants and other interested parties in the revitalization of Downtown Bryan. These groups were very involved in the overall planning process through design charrettes and meetings. Utility representatives were also involved regarding existing utility locations and overall utility planning for the downtown area.
