The Ross Street project on the Texas A&M University campus included street, storm sewer, and detention improvements around Ross Street, Bizzell Loop, and New Main Drive on the Texas A&M University Main campus. Detention was required on Tributary C of Wolf Pen Creek by agreement with the City of College Station as described in the 1997 TAMU Storm Water Management Plan. The detention system was created through the use of berms rather than "digging" a pond. This method allowed for a much more attractive feature on a highly visible area of campus.
The project also addressed many localized drainage problems that had developed over the years relating to a need to increase the capacity of the storm sewer system. The most visible problems were in the area around the Zachry/Weisenbaker Engineering Research Center and along Bizzell Street. The project also included the hydraulic analysis to correct drainage deficiencies in and around the Chemistry and Architecture buildings. The design for this project took place in 2000-2001 and the construction occurred in 2001-2002.
